Brake the bread

Is there any place in the world where the bread is better than in Paris? Of course not. When it comes to Baguette, Paris is just unbeatable. I have a lot of friends forgetting completely their gluten free diet once they arrive in Paris.

Each year, a serious jury at the Bakers’ Guild consisting of bakers, food critics and professionals elect the best baguette of the town. You might object that this is a question of personal taste. Well, not exactly. There are serious criteria. That’s why you can observe the member of the jury touching, tasting, sniffing lovely crunchy baguettes only tagged with numbers. The competition is much more than folklore, it’s a pretty serious affair: The winner is entitled to supply the Elysée Palace, the French presidents office, throughout that year.

So whose baguette Emmanuel Macron get’s every morning? The honour goes to Sami Bouattour at Boulangerie Brun.

But here is a short list of my favourite spots to buy baguette in Paris: MAD's best bakeries!

1.   Boulangerie Brun,

193, rue de Tolbiac, 75013 Paris

Sami Bouattour was second in 2015 and got the first price in 2017. President Macron and his wife Brigitte get his baguette freshly baked in the early morning.

2.   Tout autour du Pain

134, rue de Turenne et 59, rue Saintonge, 75003 Paris

Bejnamin Turquier has placed three times among the shortlist of the Best Baguette de Paris. One of the very expansive ones (1,30 €), but one of the best.

3.   Le Paradis du Gourmand

156, rue Raymond Losserand, 75014 Paris

4.   Du pain et des Idées

34, rue Yves Toudic, 75010 Paris

5.   Boulangerie Mauvieux

159, rue Ordener, 75018 Paris

6.   Au Levain d’antan

6, rue des Abbesses, 75018 Paris

7.   Boulangerie Dupain

90, boulevard des Filles du Calvaire, 75011 Paris

8.   Boulangerie Bichon

2, rue Cail, 75010 Paris

9.   Les Gourmandises d’Eiffel

187, rue de Grenelle, 75007 Paris

10. La Parisienne,

48, rue Madame, 75006 Paris
