Mad About Paris, Much more than a guide
The mood of the season is “flapper, sophisticated and chic” at Montaigne Market, the first multi-brand market on the avenue of the same name. Now you’re in the know: simply flapper, sophisticated and chic. Did you get the message?
The shop, whic opened in 2005, still feels like the biggest splash among all the conservative, single-brand storefronts on Avenue Montaigne, the most upmarket shopping street in Paris. It was conceived by Joannes Zingerlé, an architect who works with new tones of urban grey, and is displays its sharp selection of must-haves in 350-square-meters, or nearly 4 000-square-foot worth of space.
Montaigne Market is all about mixing and matching labels. It offers a stunning array of some sixty international fashion, accessory and jewelry labels, selected by Liliane Jossua, owner and the talented buyer of the house. It quickly became the genuine Fashion Check Point for shopping addicts and fashion-tourists, mixing French standards like YSL, Aläia and Givenchy with newcomers like Prabal Gurung who haas already dressed Michelle Obama, cutting-edge labels like Thomas Wylde from LA who recently presented a “lux punk collection” and ALICE by Temperley, a new label of Temperley, which embodies the British spirit and the rock n’roll atmosphere of London.
It’s Liliane’s sharp eye that makes the difference at Montaigne Market. After studying at Esmod International University in Paris, she opened her famous Calypso Boutique on Saint-Barthes, when she wasn’t yet thirty. Nine years later came Montaigne Market and, most recently, her own label. Liliane herself, beautiful and chic, is the perfect embodiment of the nonchalant elegance, unaffected feminity and the genuine luxury she promotes.
Here it’s different, it’s savvier, more casual and younger-looking than the total-look outfits you in find neighbouring shops such as Chanel, Dior, and Prada. So come and have a look and spend a bit of money. But you mustn’t go for the “foamy fur”, even if it is part of the mood of the season. Just buy a fancy T-Shirt and feel flapper, sophisticated and chic.Montaigne Market 57, Avenue Montaigne 75008 Paris +33 (0)1 42 56 58 58 Métro: Champs-Elysées Clemenceau
