“Ça c’est Paris!”: feathers in all colours, sequins, spangles, lace, corsets, you name it. We are talking about costumes, corsets, hats, shoes and feather boas of the girls from the Folies Bergère, one of the famous music halls in Paris. It can all be yours.

The collection of Hélène Martini, who ruled for nearly four decades over the house and its girls, will be on auction this weekend.

Banana belt

Nearly 6000 costumes will come under the hammer. And if you are one of those who dreamt of being Scarlett O-Hara just for an evening or slipping into Josephine Baker’s banana belt, than this auction - dubbed “Ventes de Folie” – will be for you.

Corsets, hats, feathers, lace, sequins, shoes and frills will be offered at a starting price of €20, with prices not exceeding a few hundred Euros. Count approximately 200 Euros for a crinoline of two meters or a sequined dress.

Ruler of the night

Hélène Martini who was nicknamed “ruler of the night” doesn’t seem to be very nostalgic. After being at the head of the Folies Bergeres since 1974, she sold the house to the Lagadere Group for nine million Euros. Nearly ninety today, the old Lady considers she has worked enough in her life and that’s time to close this chapter.
