Paris concecpt store Colette celebrates its 15th anniversary

Don’t know what to do this weekend? Bored by Sundays singing all day long “Je hais les dimanches”? Then you should put the Colette Carnival on your agenda to lift up your day: Colette, the first and coolest concept store in town, will celebrate its 15th anniversary this week-end with an ephemeral amusement park in the Jardin des Tuileries.

Imagine Colette’s carnival as a giant and free open air fair (from Saturday 10 to Sunday 11 March from 12am until 8pm). The whole thing will surely be as cool as everything imagined and done by Colette and her daughter Sarah ever since they opened their cultish multibrand concept store 15 years ago. For this anniversary they really wanted to think big, bringing up a 43,000-square-foot circus tent in the Tuileries and organizing an event with an estimated 20,000 visitors.

Everything on the large program sounds fun: some arty photographers are setting up a silver photo-booth where you can get your vintage id-photos; there will be a real movie house where you can watch the old classics; you can get a photo shoot and dress up like a model; David Malett, my favourite hairdresser, will do a hairbar. There will be a giant cow and lots of activity for kids from a Nike basketball court to a ballet class for girls led by Repetto.

And the food? The city’s finest and fanciest, of course. Among the offerings will be macaroons from Ladurée, cupcakes and food-booths hold by some of the city’s most famous chefs like Jean-François Piège or Yannick Alléno from the nearby Meurice. And don’t miss Le Camion qui fume, the city’s first food truck preparing one of the best burgers in town.

And even if this carnival smells a bit like a brilliant marketing campaign for a lot of “partners” and brands that joined the event, it promises to be very cutting-edge. So for once – never mind. Enjoy.
