Issé Workshop: Fast slow food
They are days, you might be looking for the perfect lunch: healthy and light, tasty and fast, exotic and cheap. If this is your case, quickly head to Isse Workshop on Rue Saint-Augustin in the 2nd arrondissement, which, over the years, has become the Little Tokyo of Paris.
Isse workshop is not just another Japanese eatery as you can find so many in this neighbourhood. It’s THE Japanese delicatessen of Paris. The deal is just perfect: a delicious set menu changing every day for 10 Euros only.
A perfect deal
10 Euros? Exactly. For this you get a smart mix of small plates. Could be a bento, if everything came at the same time. But here you start tasting some vinegary, you’ll go on with a fantastic miso soup, you might then have noodles with grilled tofu, meat rice, a battered piece of pork or just chirashi. It’s not a lot, but it’s top quality.
No wonder that the few tables are quickly filled before even 12:30. In other words: The early bird catches the worm. Brokers from the nearby stock exchange and journalists from Agence France Press are rushing in early in order to get one of the few places in this Japanese grocery.
A perfect deal
Because this is Issé Workshop first of all a: a Japanese grocery for high standard products. The owner, Mister Kuroda, who since four decades is successfully running several well-known Japanese restaurants in Paris, opened Issé Workshop to sell the products he couldn’t get a hold of himself. He decided to import them and opened a grocery. When one of his chefs, Manubu Ofuji from Issé, had to slow down a bit, he gave him the opportunity to continue at Issé Workshop serving this perfect deal: kind of slow food served as fast.
