Mad About Paris, Much more than a guide
Mama Shelter is something new, something special: You can hardly find a better price-quality ratio in Paris and a hotel where you can have so much fun. Ok, Mama Shelter is not situated in what you would call “the centre”, but it is in a vivid and still untouristy, colourful neighbourhood where you can discover the real Paris. And it offers what the mobile generation is looking for: a cool place, funny, although extremely functional.
Each room (from 15 to 35 square meters) is equipped with five star bedding (the mattress and the smooth satiny sheets) and a 24-inch Imac, which serves as computer, radio, TV, CD- and DVD-player. You have, of course, free wifi in the whole hotel.
You just need to heat the baby’s bottle? Enjoy your mini-kitchen with a microwave. Toiletry products are from Kiehl’s and if you prefer them in a bigger size, you can buy them in the lobby. Likewise, the toothbrushes or the funny Starck masks used as lampshades for the construction-zone lamps.
You don’t like Shrek? Well, Jean-Claude Elgaire, the good soul of Mama Shelter, the real “papa” behind everything, who spent more than fifty years in the Parisian palace Plaza Athenée at the end of his career as chef-concierge, will make everything possible. Nearly everything. You only have to have a chat with him.
Honestly, I do not like Philippe Starck: Wherever you go, New York or Tel Aviv, Argentine or China, he’s been there already, leaving his signature in hotels call over the world. But “Mama Shelter” is different. Mama Shelter is the future. That’s why the manager, Cyril Aouizerate, a philosopher, and Serge and Jeremie Trigano, sons of the founder of the Club Méditerranée, will be expanding: Mama Shelter will soon open in Lyon, Marseille and Istanbul. Apparently, bringing experience and philosophy together doesn’t do any harm. This hotel will, read my lips, change hotel culture in the lower-affordable range.Mama Shelter 109, rue de Bagnolet 75020 Paris +33 (0) 1 43 48 48 48 48 fax + 33(0)1 43 48 49 49 Porte de Bagnolet Bus line n° 26, 64 and 76 direction Pyrénées (Bagnolet stop) or line n° 69 (Gambetta stop)
