Vermeer ore the aura of art
Everybody wants to see Vermeer.
This is probably a good sign. Johannes Vermeer was such a quiet and modest person, that it took hundreds of years to realize what a genius he was. Now everybody knows and loves the painter and this makes visiting an exhibition to quite an event you have to plan.
Since the opening of the Vermeer exhibition in the Louvre in Paris beginning of February, the crowds are waiting patiently to get into the gallery. No wonder: The exhibition presents his great masterpieces and those of his contemporaries. Some of them are part of the permanent collection of the Louvre, like the famous “Lacemaker”, others are here in Paris just for a short time.
It is amazing to see Vermeer’s most known painting likes “The Sphinx of Delft” close to the work of his contemporaries: He’s just shining a lot more lighter than the others. His paintings have a kind of aura ore enigma that you can see the difference from far.
“Vermeer and the Masters of Genre Painting” is one of the must-sees right now in Paris. But be careful: You have too book your visit in advance on and mostly the next days are already sold out. Once you’ve got your ticket with a precise time-window, go there in advance. A ticket doesn’t mean that you do not need to queue up, of course.
But than, what a reward: Vermeer is worth all the hustle.
